Do what makes you happy, I can tell you no amount of money can replace joy if making it is miserable. I'd rather be broke & happy than rich & depressed. Hopefully you can find that happy compromise.

Form what you've said I would say apply its what maybe $50 and some time? This way you know your answer about school if you don't get the promotion. From the looks of it, it seems like you like the idea of school better.

well option A you get money immediately but otion B you will be learning alot more and in the long run will be worth more. I would do B, you always have to look forward and not just whats right in front of yu.

It all comes to potential.

Let's assume scenario "A" - You get a significant payment increase, where do you see yourself in 5 years if you go that route? What about 10 years from now?

For Scenario "B", make the same assessment, for 5 and 10 years.

I've been debating with that for a few years now. Finally it come to me that, for me, it is better to back to school. In the near future (less than 5 years) it will have a negative impact on my finances and also on potential promotions. However, in the long run, it will have a great positive impact.

In the line of work I'm in and the company I work for, they value graduate studies. In fact, per company policy, the same position would pay 10% more to a person holding a masters and 20% more to a person holding a PhD. Likewise, the requirements for promotions are less strict for people holding graduate studies. E.g. - 5 years in a certain position for a BSc. vs. 3 years for a person having a PhD.

What field of school is it that you might be going into? This is a factor. If it's anything like RN (what I'm schooling for), it may take a while and a lot of work to even get into a program). I actually don't have much input given my little experience and your little bitty bit of info. As for those that say do what you like/want. That's actually a lot harder than it sounds.

Either way, send the 250 to me and I'll keep her going, hehe!

Plus, you can ride the 650 to school or to work so you still get "some" ride time in :-D
